Careers
Physical therapists are allied health professionals that promote optimal health and function through the application of scientific principles to prevent, identify, assess, correct or alleviate acute or prolonged dysfunctions.
Once you graduate from a Doctor of Physical Therapy program, pass the board exam, and meet any state laws and exams that are required, you are eligible to work as a licensed Physical Therapist.

General requirements
- Completion of both the PTCAS application and UC Graduate College supplemental application
- Completion of undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university
- A cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 at the undergraduate level based on a 4.0 scale
- A science prerequisite GPA of at least a 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale (includes A&P, BIO, CHEM and PHYSICS)
- 3 Recommendation Letters (at least one from a PT)
- Minimum of 50 observation hours (minimum 25 inpatient, 25 hours elsewhere. Please note: Inpatient hours can consist of assisted/skill living, home health, telehealth and acute care)
- Completion of prerequisite coursework
