Key facts
- The selected courses will provide for both breadth and depth of computing knowledge. To ensure breadth of knowledge, students must complete one course from each area.
- The Applied Computing PhD program is offered at Georgia Southern University.
- To ensure depth of knowledge, the remaining three courses must be taken in a single area. As a result, the PhD student would take four courses from one area and one course from each of the other two areas.
- Appropriate courses outside of the pre-approved list can only be taken with the approval of the department chair upon recommendation by the research advisor.

General requirements
For regular admission to the PhD in Applied Computing degree program, the applicant must have:
Completed requirements for a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology, or closely related field (as approved by the graduate program coordinator) at an accredited college or university.
Completed requirements for master’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology, or closely related field (as approved by the graduate program coordinator), with a 3.00 (4.0 scale) or equivalent cumulative grade point average or higher on courses in the master’s graduate degree program.
International students must meet the College of Graduate Studies English Proficiency requirements.
