The Wildlife and Fisheries Science programs at Pennsylvania State University are designed to give students an understanding of the biology and management of terrestrial or aquatic wildlife species and their environments.

Our students have access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, including off-campus field stations and field sites, a vibrant seminar program and an engaged, enthusiastic faculty.

Research areas

Possible topics areas include: habitat evaluation, ecology and management of game and nongame wildlife, animal damage control, urban wildlife, wildlife responses to altered ecosystems, conservation biology, fish systematics, fisheries management, ichthyology, fish behavior and ecology, freshwater ecology, aquaculture, landscape ecology, terrestrial and wetland ecosystems.

General requirements

Admission to the Ph.D. program in Wildlife and Fisheries Science requires a master's degree in wildlife and fisheries science or a closely related field, or a bachelor's degree with a minimum grade-point average of 3.30 and demonstrated research ability.
Three reference reports (forms supplied on request), and a brief statement describing the applicant's academic goals, career interests, and special qualifications are required.
The best-qualified applicants will be accepted up to the number of spaces available. Exceptions to admission requirements may be made for students with special backgrounds, abilities, and interests.
