Overview

The mission of our Couple and Family Therapy doctoral program at Kansas State University is to educate and mentor family scientist-practitioners with the most advanced, cutting edge training in research, supervision, and clinical work, for the purpose of developing professionals who embrace diversity and are prepared to make significant contributions as world-class researchers, impactful educators, excellent clinicians and supervisors, and collaborative community leaders.

Program goals:

The goal is to develop distinguished scholars who are highly sought after due to their demonstrated competency as world-class researchers, excellent clinicians, clinical supervisors, and educators. Students pursue programs of study that include course work in human development, family studies, couple and family therapy, statistics, and research methods.

The Ph.D. specialization in couple and family therapy is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).

General requirements

All international students admitted to the Graduate School must demonstrate the same level of achievement as U.S. students. That is, they must hold a degree from an established institution comparable to a college or university in the United States, have an outstanding undergraduate record, have the demonstrated ability to do graduate work, and provide evidence of language proficiency sufficient for the pursuit of a graduate degree. Admission may be denied to students from technical schools, which may provide excellent training in special areas, but do not offer degrees equivalent to those of colleges and universities. As a rule, students from abroad are not admitted to nondegree status (that is, as special students). Questions about the qualifications of international students should be directed to the Graduate School.
