Innovative Research
- Develop In-depth foundational knowledge within one of the focused five pillars of study
- Develop mastery of innovative scientific methods to produce original rigorous research, culminating in independent, scholarly thought
- Advance the science and the profession through pursuit of grant funding, publication of scientific discoveries and dissemination in scientific and professional forums as well as in the classroom
- Aggressively disseminate research discoveries and knowledge to stakeholders in diverse locations and backgrounds, including other professionals, students, consumers, and legislators

- A completed application through Graduate and Professional Admissions that meets minimum requirements of the Graduate School
- Professional or Master’s degree (or equivalent)
- Submission of required PhD documentation - includes curriculum vitae, research writing sample, personal statement, and *three recommendations (Applicants Please Note: Your recommenders should NOT submit their letters of recommendation until AFTER they complete an Attributes Scoring Survey sent separately to them by the Graduate Program Manager. It is crucial that their recommendation letters include the specific requested information based on your attributes, so it is your responsibility to communicate with your recommenders that the letter should not be completed/submitted until after the Attributes Survey and the letter requirements).

The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.
Funding
Some of the School’s PhD students will be supported on a Graduate Teaching Associateship (GTA), Graduate Research Associateship (GRA), or Fellowship. These are competitive positions and only the most qualified students will be funded. The Graduate Studies Committee nominates highly qualified applicants for the University Fellowship competition. Such nominees who are not awarded a Fellowship will receive priority for a GTA or GRA position and are notified of their appointment by May (for the following Autumn).
