Overview
The Education – Doctor of Philosophy program at Johns Hopkins University offers a unique learning experience where the course of study is individually tailored to the student’s interest in finding solutions to pressing education problems.
The framework is based on an apprenticeship model that includes one-to-one mentoring and participation in research. The program is designed to ensure that graduates are equipped to assume roles as university faculty, researchers, or policy leaders.
Learning outcomes
Students take courses offered by the university’s world-class divisions and work on research teams at the School of Education’s Center for Social Organization of Schools, Center for Research and Reform in Education and Success For All, the nationally acclaimed research-driven, whole-school reform model. The School of Education has 20 joint faculty appointments with the university’s schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health.Programme Structure

General requirements
- At minimum, applicants to the PhD program should hold a master’s degree from an accredited college or university. Previous degrees must document outstanding academic achievement in an area of study closely associated with the objectives of the program.
- Applicants must submit the online admission application form, application fee, and official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
- Applicants are required to earn superior scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and present acceptable TOEFL or IELTS scores (if an international student).
- Additionally, applicants are required to submit a curriculum vitae, a personal statement, dispositions survey, and three letters of reference affirming the applicant’s qualifications for advanced graduate study and potential for professional development in the field.
- Selected applicants who meet the entrance requirements will be invited to interview with the doctoral admissions committee.
