We believe that research is one of three key pillars of academic excellence, along with teaching and community engagement. Research enables faculty to innovate, provides experiential learning for students, and introduces adapted solutions for pressing societal needs. At CAS, we strive to continuously develop our scientific infrastructure to ensure that faculty and students have access to quality research space and resources they need. We also work to encourage intra- and inter-institutional collaborations to increase research productivity and foster an entrepreneurial atmosphere as to help move scientific discoveries to communities and the marketplace. We believe that CAS can leverage its size and diversity to serve as a model for interdisciplinary research excellence at QU and in the region. To do so, it is critical for us to capitalize on potential interdisciplinary synergies provided by the multiplicity of disciplines within CAS. This is because of the growing recognition among academic institutions that competitive advantages lie in the "white spaces" between disciplines and can be harnessed only through interdisciplinary collaboration and integration. The latter also enables focus and leveraging of assets (human and infrastructure) to maximize cost-effectiveness and impact.
CAS is home to a large number of talented faculty researchers from around the globe who are pursuing research in areas as diverse as Social sciences, Humanities, Health Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Basic sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Biology). The caliber of our researchers is reflected in our large and increasing research grant portfolio.
We believe that CAS is set to achieve even greater research accomplishments in the years ahead as we strengthen our research infrastructure, streamline our processes, and continue to further align and refine our research priorities with those of Qatar 2030 national vision and Qatar national development strategy 2011-2016. To do so, we will be guided by the following strategic goals:
- Attract, retain and reward high caliber research faculty and
- Prioritize, reallocate and setup world-class core labs for interdisciplinary research
- Achieve a highly recognized impact research and encourage research projects that are in alignment with national research priorities.
To reach these goals, we will:
- Engage faculty in the strategic vision for research,
- Identify and implement interdisciplinary research initiatives,
- Strengthen interdisciplinary research portfolio,
- Enhance student research and experiential learning,
- Establish outreach/engagement mechanisms with stakeholders, and
- Seek strategic research partnerships to maximize synergies and impact.
We are fully committed to providing our faculty, staff, and students the best possible research infrastructure and work environment to enable them to achieve excellence and reach their potential.
