Research projects may be conducted in on-campus laboratories, in the wider community, or within the student’s place of work. We have a long history of successful research collaboration with commercial organisations and health services both within the UK and internationally.

Clinical Sciences and Nutrition academics at the University of Chester have expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research and a number of recent studies have capitalised upon this strength by adopting a mixed methods approach.

All research students are supported by experienced teams of supervisors each led by a senior academic. In addition, students are encouraged to participate in a range of developmental activities to enhance their knowledge and research skills.

To be eligible to apply for PhD programmes, applicants should normally have, or expect to obtain, at least an upper second class honours degree in a discipline appropriate to their intended area of research.

Substantial prior research experience may, in some instances, be acceptable in place of a first degree qualification.

A completed application, two references (in most cases the references shall come from independent academic referees, i.e. they are not normally provided by a prospective supervisor), an up-to-date CV and copies of appropriate certificates or transcripts must be uploaded to the application in order to be considered.
