Program Goals

The mission of the program is to prepare students to excel at two primary academic roles: knowledge creation and knowledge dissemination. The program is designed to reflect the tradition of scholarly excellence already exemplified by other doctoral programs in the College of Business and the University. Our goals are to ensure that this tradition is maintained through the administration of the program, and strive for continuous improvement in training world-class researchers and teachers.

Departmental Climate

The PhD in Marketing aims to provide a collegial and supportive environment to students consistent with the climate on the University of Wyoming campus. Programme Structure

Courses include:

  • Marketing Theory (history and development of marketing thought)
  • Behavioral Theory I (psychological models in marketing)
  • Behavioral Theory II (anthropological and sociological models in marketing)
  • Marketing Policy and Social Change (sustainability, transformative consumer research, social marketing, social entrepreneurship, macromarketing, and related topics)
  • Multivariate Modeling (e.g., SEM, conjoint analysis, logit modeling)
  • Qualitative Data Collection and Analysis in Marketing

English Language Requirements

    The TOEFL iBT ® measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The test has four sections (reading, listening, speaking, and writing), each with a score range of 0-30, for a total score range of 0-120.

    The TOEFL®PBT is administered in a paper format and measures your ability to use and understand English in a classroom setting at the college or university level. It accurately measures how well you can listen, read and write in English while performing academic tasks.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • B.A. and (be working toward or have completed) a Master's Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in business or a core social science discipline
  • A typical applicant will have a GRE score of 310 or a GMAT score of 650
  • Three strong letters of recommendation from research-active academicians
  • A 500 word essay summarizing your interest in pursuing doctoral studies and speaking to questions or issues you wish to research. Linking your interest to those of UW marketing faculty members is recommended
  • $50 application fee paid to University Admissions
