The Graduate College from University of Arizona sponsors several Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs (GIDPs) in addition to the many interdisciplinary possibilities available through regular graduate degree programs.

The Cancer Biology Graduate Interdisciplinary Program trains predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees for careers in cancer research through an interdisciplinary program that involves faculty from a wide range of disciplines at the University of Arizona.   

The Program offers course work and research opportunities leading to a Ph.D. degree in Cancer Biology.  A major goal of this interdisciplinary program is to provide trainees with an exciting and stimulating academic environment that inspires innovative cancer research, provides a foundation of knowledge in the basic science disciplines related to cancer research, and exposure to the challenges faced by clinicians that treat cancer patients.

Programme Structure

  • Core courses complete by end of fourth semester
  • Research laboratory identified by July 1 of first year
  • Comprehensive exam no later than end of fifth semester
  • Final oral defense no later than seven years from start of program

GRE admission requirements GRE® The GRE® General Test is a widely administered admissions test that measures the skills needed in today's graduate and business school programs worldwide. It contains three sections - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Three scores are reported: a Verbal Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, a Quantitative Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, and an Analytical Writing score on a 0 - 6 score scale in half-point increments.
