The University opened its doors on 24 October 1883 and was formally established by Royal Charter in 1884.
We were named the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire and were tiny in comparison to our current size.
In 1893 we became one of the founding institutions of the University of Wales and began awarding their degrees. By 1972 we had taken the name University College, Cardiff.

The Cathays Park campus is where most of our Academic Schools are based. With wide tree-lined avenues and elegant Portland stone buildings, it's an inspiring place to study.Healthcare-related courses (excluding Pharmacy and Optometry) are based at Heath Park. It's just a mile from the city centre and next to 100 acres of parkland and playing fields.
