About the program
Our cadre of top-notch faculty represents many disciplines — hydrology, geology, geography, plant and soil sciences, microbiology, ecology, engineering, economics and public policy, to name a few — but we share a common vision. We aim to better understand water and its relationship to Earth’s diverse systems and to better manage and protect our precious water resources.
By choosing to study Water Science and Policy at the University of Delaware, you will be begin an exciting intellectual journey that will challenge you to synthesize knowledge from a number of different fields. No matter what aspect of water you choose as your research focus, you will be encouraged to look at how it intertwines with other natural and human aspects of water quality and quantity.

General requirements
- Applicants for the Ph.D. program will typically have an M.S. degree in a related field. Direct admission to the Ph.D. program immediately after a B.S. degree will only be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates, as determined by the program committee.
- A personal statement and Graduate Record Examination scores are required.
- Official, up-to-date transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate programs. A minimum of 3.0/4.0 is required in the major.
- Three letters of recommendation from individuals knowledgeable of the applicant's academic preparation and potential ability as a graduate student.
