Overview
Pharmacology is the study of the mechanism of drug action. The discipline resides at the important interface between the basic sciences that investigate the cellular and molecular biology of mammalian physiology on the one hand, and the development of clinically effective approaches to treating disease on the other.
About the program
The Molecular Pharmacology Graduate Program offers formal training through courses and provides research opportunities individually tailored to suit each student. The MPGP is affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Graduate Program (IBGP) of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

General requirements
- A baccalaureate degree in a biological or physical science or in mathematics, computer science or engineering.
- A minimum grade point average of 3.2 (on a scale of 4) or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of three letters of recommendation. Letters from faculty familiar with the applicant's research accomplishments are of particular value to the evaluation process.
- A personal statement.
