Accommodation
The universities of Barcelona have an agreement with Resa Housing, an organisation specialised in youth accommodation. Students are advised to contact Resa Housing (www.bcn-housing-students.com) well in advance of their moving to Barcelona, in order to determine the most suitable type of accommodation (shared flat, rented apartment or university halls of residence).
Language and cultural reception programme
The UPC offers you a range of services and products designed to help you to adapt to life in Barcelona, including language courses, a language exchange service, workshops and cultural induction activities.
Medical insurance
If you are a citizen from the European Union covered by public healthcare, you must apply for the European healthcare card in your home country.
If you are a citizen from another country, you must find out if there is an agreement between the public healthcare system in your home country and the Spanish one. If there is such an agreement, you must apply in your home country for the certificate that allows you to benefit from public healthcare in Spain. Please take into account that this certificate will only cover you in case of urgent care.
If your case is not covered by the previous points, you must take out private medical insurance for the duration of your stay.
Barcelona is ranked the best student city in Spain and the eleventh best in the world in the QS Best Student Cities 2012 ranking.
There are many things that make Barcelona a very attractive city to study and live in: its historical and architectural heritage, its culture, its cosmopolitan nature and its privileged location by the Mediterranean Sea.
Most UPC schools, departments and facilities are located in Barcelona, but there are some others in nearby cities, although they are all easy to get to on Barcelona public transport network.
To find out more about our city, please visit the website Barcelona at www.bcn.es/barcelonavistaper in which you will find foreigners discussing their experience of living in Barcelona.
Developing and creating innovative ideas can also take place outside of your study programme. Every year UPC students take part in competitions and awards, enabling them to apply the knowledge they have acquired to real-life projects, learn new skills and interact with businesses.
