The Methodist Episcopal Church founded Emory College in 1836 in the small Georgia town of Oxford. The founders named the town for the school's prestigious British cousin, and named the school for a bishop who dreamed of an American education that molded character as well as the mind.

The university offers academic degrees and programs through nine schools, including more than 70 undergraduate choices and dozens of graduate and professional specialties. The academic year is divided into two semesters, plus a summer term.

Our students pursue doctoral research in more than 40 specialties. Residence Life and Housing Operations maintains more than 20 residence halls. About three in four undergraduates, including all first- and second-year students, live in campus housing, fostering a sense of community and involvement in college life.
All residential students must participate in an Emory Dining meal plan. We offer several choices to accommodate a range of dietary needs and preferences. Students simply swipe or tap their university ID, the EmoryCard, to use plan benefits at dining facilities.
